TOWARDS ECOLOGICAL ECONOMY
The makeshift communities - known as 'colonias' - that accommodate the vast population of immigrant labor force in the American agricultural industry are in desperate need of design. The inhabitants of these communities are left to their own devices to supply their families with the base utilities that are typically taken for granted, such as running water, access to electricity, and shelter from the natural elements. This project aims to create a sustainable, self-replicating, and modular design solution to the issues facing the human and non-human elements of the southern Coachella Valley - an area defined by starkly contrasted dichotomies of inequality in the distribution of resources.
